Resilience: The Spirit of Perseverance

Resilience was a photographic story-telling project inspired by the courage of businesses in Northbridge during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Beauty of Perth began the project in August 2021 with photographers taking photos and interviews from local cafes and restaurants. These were used to create an exhibition to rally community support during the hard times.

Resilience is a testament to the spirit of adaptability and perseverance in the face of unexpected challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. Western Australia, like many regions around the world, faced its own unique challenges. From disrupted supply chains to sudden drops in consumer demand, particularly in industries such as tourism and retail, which saw a rapid decline in revenue.

As travel bans and lockdown measures were implemented, local retailers faced the difficulty of reduced traffic as residents observed stay-at-home orders. Businesses had to find ways to adapt and survive the impact of lockdowns and other government restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic.

By sharing these images from our catalogue we aim to show the stories and perspectives of business owners and their resilience during this life-changing experience.
