What we do

We collect material for heritage, reference and public library collections.

The State Library is committed to preserving collections for future generations. Conservators use specialist techniques to care for items, including preventative measures such as monitoring the environment, an integrated pest management program, ensuring proper storage conditions according to the nature of the items, and training staff in the careful handling of objects. Where appropriate we also undertake conservation treatments by carrying out technical and scientific assessment on objects and stabilising the materials and structure of damaged objects.

Your Western Australia, your State Library
If you visit the State Library over the next few months, you will see a huge decal on the front of the building. The images you see on the building are reflected on this page. The idea behind Inside Outside is to highlight the huge range of great WA items and stories you will find in your State Library. Now you are here, dig a bit deeper into our collection.
