Food & drink

No food or beverages to be taken to Levels 1, 2 & 3. Bottled water is the only exception.

Why? Blame this on Wally the Weevil and his paper-eating insect mates. They love to eat rare and beautiful books, the rarer and the more attractive, the better. Insects are the enemy of the library. We just can’t risk feeding them, so sorry, no food or drinks on Levels 1, 2 and 3.

An example of pest damaged paper we sometimes receive at the Library. This is before cleaning, preservation and digitisation.

Consumption of dry, odourless food and covered drinks are permitted on the Ground and Mezzanine floors, in The Story Place and education spaces in the State Library. Please do not drink hot beverages in The Story Place.

Water fountains are located on the Ground Floor and Levels 1, 2 and 3.

Ground + Co Cafe

Ground + Co serves delicious coffee, happy service, bad puns and good times.

They are providing employment to break the cycle of homelessness.

Open 7:30 am to 14:00 pm Monday to Friday.
