Amber was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus and wasn’t expected to survive her first birthday. At 36 years old, Amber says that every birthday is a blessing, and that everyone in her family has a great appreciation for life. She explains that she isn’t scared of death because she has faced it herself several times but became depressed after the death of her father and grandmother.
From these depths and drawing on the limitations she had come up against in the world as a wheelchair user, she set up her own accessibility audit business. She believes that her father and grandmother would be very proud of what she has achieved, and that she carries them with her wherever she goes. Amber shares the conversations about death that she has had with her son, her belief that death is not the end, and that grief doesn’t need to be seen as a negative.
