John Kinsella is a writer at the forefront of arts in Western Australia. He is the author of more than 40 books, including a three-volume collection of his life’s work (UWA Publishing) spanning more than 40 years of writing.

His many awards include the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Poetry, the Victorian Premier’s Award for Poetry, the John Bray Award for Poetry, the Judith Wright Calanthe Award for Poetry and the Western Australian Premier’s Award for Poetry (three times). In 2007, John received the Christopher Brennan Award for Lifetime Achievement in Poetry.

John is a prolific poet and frequent collaborator with other creatives, and well-known locally and internationally.

He is a Fellow of Churchill College at Cambridge University, and Professor of Literature and Environment at Curtin University.

John Kinsella is an activist at his core. Always attuned to the natural world, his poetry examines how humans respond to a world that we ourselves have placed under pressure.

John lives and works on Ballardong Noongar land at Jam Tree Gully in the Western Australian wheatbelt.
