Join us to launch our newest exhibition, X-Press Magazine: 41 Years on the Streets. We’ll be celebrating with an electrifying panel conversation with journalists, musicians and those closest to the magazine, who’ll reminisce on war stories from the trenches of rock ‘n’ roll and print journalism and reflect on the changing tides of fashion, media and pop culture in Perth. The evening will also include musical interludes from Abbe May.

Panellists

Abbe May: ARIA-nominated WA musician and raconteur

Bob Gordon: X-Press Magazine’s longest serving editor

Braden Edwards: Current editor, X-Press Magazine online

Joe Cipriani: Founder and former owner X-Press Magazine

Toni Wilkinson: Leading WA photographer and long-serving X-Press Magazine snapper

Moderator: David Craddock, Manager Engagement and Creative Programs, State Library of Western Australia

About the Exhibition

On 21 June 1985, the first printed edition of X-Press Magazine hit Perth’s streets. From humble beginnings as a small but plucky guide to Perth’s nightlife, the magazine became a highly influential bible for all things music, art, fashion, food and drink in Perth. Curated by former X-Press editor Bob Gordon, the exhibition reflects on the magazine’s cultural impact and legacy. With the title now owned by local media company Vanguard Media Group, it also looks to the brand’s digital future.

This event and exhibition is presented with the support of Vanguard Media Group and X-Press Magazine.
