AFL Origin fever is in the air! To mark the game between Western Australia and Victoria on 14 February, the State Library will display a selection of treasures from the Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer collection.

Polly Farmer MBE began his career with the East Perth Football Club in 1953, before moving to the VFL in 1962 to play for Geelong. Later, ending his playing career at West Perth. His dominant ruck style and innovative use of the handball contributed to his reputation as a legend of the game.

Farmer won five premierships in the WANFL, a VFL premiership, three Sandover Medals and four Simpson Medals. Farmer also had a decorated career representing WA in interstate matches, both as player and as the inaugural coach of the WA team in the first State of Origin match at Subiaco Oval in 1977.

This display will also feature historic film footage of the 1956 National Football Carnival in which Farmer played and showcase photos charting the on-field rivalry between Victoria and Western Australia.
