The Tingles tells the story of Dr Elizabeth Edmonds, a palaeoecologist deeply ensconced in the Walpole Wilderness area of Western Australia. In her scientific work, she travels through deep time using ancient pollen and charcoal samples. But Dr Edmonds is also a visual artist, sometimes using charcoals as her palette to create evocative flora portraits and forest landscapes. Her 2023 appointment as Eucalyptus Australia’s Dahl Fellow resulted in an ongoing exhibition, A Tale of Two Trees. The exhibition is a botanical, scientific and illustrative journey into the lives of the red tingle (Eucalyptus jacksonii) and the red flowering gum (Corymbia ficifolia), two species of tree endemic to the Walpole area.
