Women in Media WA opportunity Call out for storytellers and producers

If you are an early career journalist, content maker or media student looking to tell a great story and get paid for your content, we want to hear from you.

Women in Media WA has partnered with the State Library of Western Australia on a project to gather stories celebrating ‘Wimmin’s Work’. This project is  proudly supported by the WA Department of Communities Women’s Grants for a Stronger Future.

The stories will document the rich history of women working in Western Australia. If commissioned, your content will be showcased by the State Library during its women-focused programming throughout March 2025 and on the Women in Media WA socials.

Your Pitch

She could be a trailblazer, a peacemaker, a homemaker, a risk-taker, a mover and a shaker.  What does she do? What made her choose her work? What does a typical day look like? What support does she need to be successful? Is she breaking new ground for women in her role? Paid or unpaid, we want to find the women in WA who are redefining what ‘Wimmin’s Work’ looks like. We want you to tell their story.

Need Inspiration?

We are also interested in modern stories which have parallels with the trailblazing women in the State Library’s existing Western Australian collections. If you are looking for a story idea, State Library staff will be able to point you to significant women from our collections whose stories need to be shared.  We can help you bring their stories to light, adding historical context with photographs, film, diaries and oral histories.  You might even want to compare a story from our collection with a modern-day counterpart.

Your Story

Will be a 3–6 minute audio, video or photo-led story, plus photos of the subject and a transcript of your interview. Content will be edited for use by Women in Media and the State Library’s social media platforms. It will also be shared in a larger International Women’s Day event. Successful applicants will each receive $1000 for their submitted story plus an invitation to be part of a panel event next March at the State Library.
