Announcing the 2025 Premier’s Book Awards Judges

Earlier this year, the State Library put out a call for readers with a critical mind and love of Western Australian books to join the judging panel for the 2025 Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards.  

A record number of enthusiastic applications were received and a team of 18 judges from across Australia with broad-ranging experience and expertise has been appointed.  

The 2025 judging panel are writers, poets, playwrights, educators, book sellers, scholars, reviewers, festival directors and local library lovers. 

The State Library welcomes:  

Megan McCracken (Chair), Brendan Kirwin, Bron Bateman, Carmen Grau, Cindy Solonec, Colin Harte, Eugen Bacon, Jayne Cleave, Kris Williams, Marija Peričić, Paris Rosemont, Peta Beasley, Rebecca Higgie, Robert Wood, Shannon Meyerkort, Sian Baker, Soraya Acosta Sanchez, Toby Halsey. 

$120,000 in prizes will be awarded for the categories of Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry, Emerging, Children, Young Adult, Book of the Year sponsored by Writing WA and the Daisy Utemorrah Award for Indigenous Junior and YA Fiction sponsored by Magabala Books.  

The shortlisted titles will be announced in June 2025.
