Aboriginal Empowerment Fund

Our Aboriginal Empowerment Fund supports our critical contribution to the state-wide conversation on truth-telling and reconciliation by strengthening and enabling Aboriginal-led perspectives. We aim to stimulate public dialogue and present contemporary perspectives through our Dialogues 2029 program of events, working in partnership with Aboriginal people to enable an enhanced understanding of who we are and where we come from, as we approach the bicentenary of Western Australia’s colonisation.

The Aboriginal Empowerment Fund supports Aboriginal self-determination by empowering Aboriginal peoples, families and communities to make decisions about their stories, recognising that our collections hold significant connection to country, culture and kinship. It fosters Aboriginal leadership, including through employment opportunities at the State Library, and supports culturally responsive, shared decision-making.

The fund also supports Storylines, our award-winning Aboriginal family archive, as well as inclusive public library programming to increase engagement with local Aboriginal families and communities. Guided by their priorities, it also supports research into Aboriginal family histories and our Aboriginal collections, including music and oral histories.

Your support will strengthen the State Library in positioning itself at the nexus of an important state-wide dialogue with the oldest continuous culture on earth and share our learnings through public programming leading up to 2029.
