Authors Gerard McCann and Louise Wolhuter discuss their experiences winning the 2025 Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards and what it meant to them.

Gerard McCann took home the Non-Fiction Book of the Year for Anatomy of a Secret: One Man's Search for Justice. Louise Wolhuter won the Fiction Book of the Year for Shadows of Winter Robins.

The 2026 Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards close for entries on 6 March 2026. The State Library of Western Australia is inviting writers, illustrators and publishers to submit works published or self-published between 1 January 2025 and 31st December 2025. 

With a total prize pool of $120 000 the state’s biggest book awards recognise and celebrate the best of Western Australian storytelling.  Guidelines and information on how to enter is available on the State Library website
