Family History eResources

The State Library has a number of subscriptions that can help you uncover your family history. Library editions of Ancestry and Find My Past contain vast amounts of historical records in a searchable format. Other resources contain historical newspapers and magazines, government records and archives from Australia and other countries. Trove is a particularly rich source, containing most Australian newspapers in a fully digitised and searchable format up until the copyright cut-off date.

Please note that due to license restrictions, Ancestry and Find My Past can only be used from computers inside the State Library building and can’t be accessed remotely.

Trove Digitisted Newspapers

Digitised Newspapers and Gazettes form the largest of Trove’s collections with access provided to over 18.5 million pages from more than 1000 Australian newspapers. Newspapers are made available dating from the early 1800s.​.
