Discover the legend of Moondyne Joe, a folk hero, bushranger and notorious convict. Joseph Bolitho Johns is famous for his daring prison escapes. This vibrant children’s exhibition reimagines his story for younger audiences through history, storytelling and art, offering a fresh interpretation of one of Western Australia’s most iconic figures.

At the heart of this exhibition is the recently acquired collection of original illustrations and drafts from the much-loved picture book of the same name by Mark Greenwood and Frané Lessac. These are presented alongside heritage items from the State Library collection.

Teachers and Students

Students can enhance their visit with a hands-on education trail booklet and a one-hour guided workshop, Digging Up the Past. The exhibition and workshop are designed to bring Western Australia's history to life for upper primary learners.
