Help pick this year's shortlist and winners! The State Library of Western Australia is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) to join the 2026 Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards judging panel.

Open to writers, storytellers, poets, editors, researchers, reviewers and book lovers. We invite EOIs from readers with a diverse range of backgrounds and experience. Ideally, you will enjoy reading Australian literature and have the time, relevant experience and fair-mindedness to critically examine a large number of books in a short timeframe. 

Judges receive an honorarium ($1,250) and should be available for judging from February to July 2025. Each judge will be assigned a primary and secondary category. 

Your EOI should include two documents – a brief CV and a statement of your interest describing your expertise, knowledge or passion in any fields the Awards cover. Each document should be a maximum of one A4 page and uploaded as individual PDFs.

Eligibility for judges has been opened to interstate applicants. 

Former judges can be retained for a maximum of three consecutive years. To ensure that the Chair of the panel has experience in the judging process, that person will be permitted to remain on the panel for more than three years, however can only hold the role of Chair for two years.
