With over 35,000 entries, AIATSIS' Aboriginal Biographical Index provides a brief biographical entry of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people referred to, or depicted in published or unpublished material held in the Institute’s collections. Search by personal name, place name or language group.

National Library of Australia - Mura Gadi Catalogue
Mura Gadi is a guide to material in the National Library of Australia relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It provides an online pathway to collections of archival materials held by the National Library as well as direct links to digitised copies of materials.

Northern Territory

Territory Stories
A repository of historical and culturally significant digital objects accessible to the public. In addition to documents and photographs, the site accommodates a range of formats including audio and video and allows users to contribute their stories. The website includes PictureNT, StoryNT, and History NT.

The site provides information on accessing various collections including the Norman Tindale Collection, a series of genealogy sheets and photographs of Aboriginal people who lived on various Aboriginal missions in Australia during the period 1939 to 1959.

Western Australia

State Records Office of Western Australia
The SRO holds WA Government records.

Aboriginal History Research Services within the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries can provide research support for State government records about Aboriginal people and families in Western Australia.  They manage access to manages access to approximately 16,000 archived files. These files are the records of various government departments that managed Aboriginal affairs between 1886 and 1972. They also hold the prominent Tindale Photographic collection which contains images of Aboriginal people and the land across Western Australia.

Searching for your family history - Department of Communities
In the past, many people were separated from their families due to policies and practices which reflected the social attitudes of those times. As a result many people do not know their relatives, their own background, childhood or family history. The Department of Communities' records include historical family and personal information about Aboriginal people, former state wards, and British and Maltese child migrants.

Berndt Museum of Anthropology
