Hospital Patients

Very few early hospital admission registers have survived. Noted here are those which have been found - they can contain such information as name, age, religion, illness, birthplace, residence, ward, name and address of nearest relative, marital status, occupation, dates of admission and discharge or death, number of days in hospital. The State Records Office does not hold any private hospital records (including maternity homes). Check under the heading Mental Health for records relating to Fremantle Asylum, Claremont, Heathcote, Whitby Falls hospital, and the 1913-1920 register of inebriates.

Coolgardie Sanatorium

Derby Leprosarium

Greenplace Hostel

• AU WA S436 cons3879 1: Register of Admissions and Discharges 1954-1978
  Contains alphabetical index to names of patients. Dates of admission are from 1926, although the Register was not started until 1954 .

Kalgoorlie Hospital

Lemnos Hospital

  While the register was maintained for the period 1953-1966, it includes patients who were admitted to a psychiatric hospital from 1918 and notes which ones were transferred to Lemnos Hospital.

Mount Henry Hospital

Southern Cross Hospital

  Details include patient’s name and address, address of nearest relative, sex, age, occupation, religion, illness and dates of admission and discharge. There is a name index at the front of the volume.

Wooroloo Sanatorium

  Details include patient number, name, address, address of nearest relative, age, marital statues, occupation, religion, if convict, disease, dates of admission, discharge or death, cause of death, time in hospital and remarks.

As more hospital records are deposited they can be located by searching the Series Registration System and the State Records Office catalogue under the name of the hospital.
