Very few early hospital admission registers have survived. Noted here are those which have been found - they can contain such information as name, age, religion, illness, birthplace, residence, ward, name and address of nearest relative, marital status, occupation, dates of admission and discharge or death, number of days in hospital. The State Records Office does not hold any private hospital records (including maternity homes). Check under the heading Mental Health for records relating to Fremantle Asylum, Claremont, Heathcote, Whitby Falls hospital, and the 1913-1920 register of inebriates.

As more hospital records are deposited they can be located by searching the Series Registration System and the State Records Office catalogue under the name of the hospital.
