Launching the New Online Media Viewer

We are excited to launch our upgraded online media viewer. The new platform is designed to improve the way users interact with digital materials in the State Library's catalogue, ensuring a more accessible and user-friendly experience.

In the last year, digital materials from the State Library’s collection were accessed more than 750,000 times by using our online viewer, including photographs, videos, audio, maps and documents. The redesign process was comprehensive, involving consultation and collaboration across various teams within the organisation, as well as user testing with library patrons.

The updated online media viewer now has a modern, responsive interface that adapts seamlessly to different devices and screen sizes. Key features of the new viewer include:

  • Enhanced header: The new header consolidates all essential information related to the item being viewed. This includes the record title, links to related content, and navigation options for adjacent items.
  • Modern design: The interface has been refreshed to match the State Library’s current brand, offering a visually appealing and intuitive user experience.
  • Improved accessibility: The updates ensure that the online media viewer is more accessible, making it easier for all users to navigate and engage with the library's digital collections.
