How do you capture the scale of Western Australia’s incredible biodiversity? For John Hutchinson, the answer lay in recording the State’s birdlife over decades.
‘Sound Twitcher’ is a short documentary immersing the viewer in the world of birdsong, and profiles the decades-long journey that one remarkable man took to document it.
Over more than fifty years John Hutchinson traversed Western Australia on his own, capturing the State’s birdlife in natural, untouched habitats. Hutchinson amassed a remarkable collection of recordings during that time, which are now retained as part of the State Library archives, and which point to the evolution of these habitats across time.
Join the filmmakers and a panel of experts as they explore this incredible collection and tell the story of the man who created it.
The WA Reflections project returns to present five new short documentary films created by emerging West Australian filmmakers, all based around stories from the State Library collections.
