Going with the Flow

Tuesday 27 April 2021 06:00PM to 08:00PM
State Library Level 1

Disrupted Festival is changing. The uncertainty brought by COVID-19 has meant that we have decided to reinvent how we present Disrupted, at least for 2021. This year Disrupted will initially be delivered through a series of free monthly talks. Later in the year the State Library will explore whether we can host a one day event, similar to the Disrupted Festivals of the past.

Going with the Flow

In a time when Scotland is leading the way providing menstrual products for free to ‘anyone who needs them’ and Australia still advertises them using blue liquid, or men sticking them to their bodies as armour, Lucy Peach, author of Period Queen, is provoking us to change our thinking and challenge the status quo.

She’s talking about periods, and identifying ways that women and those with periods can embrace their hormones to increase productivity and understanding of the menstrual cycle for everyone (not just those who have one). Bringing the topic to theatres and with music, almost shouting from the rooftops, Lucy is up for the conversation. Join Lucy and Andrea Gibbs as they tackle the taboo subject, explore the power of hormones, the issue of period poverty and possibly sing us a song or two.

This event will be Auslan interpreted and live streamed.

FREE event, no bookings required.
