Meet your children’s literary heroes at the State Library
The Backyard Book Fair at the State Library of Western Australia is an opportunity for your children to meet the writers and illustrators of their favourite books.
Your children will get to meet some of Western Australia’s most celebrated children’s writers and illustrators including James Foley, Dianne Wolfer, Kylie Howarth, Cristy Burne, Kelly Canby, Steve Heron, Mark Evans, Frané Lessac, Meg McKinlay and Aśka. The writers and illustrators will give entertaining talks and lead activities and interactive demonstrations.
The State Library will be the venue for this special event, which is presented by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (Australia West branch).
This event is suitable for ages 10 and under, but everyone is welcome. A $20 family ticket, for up to six people, will include your choice of book by one of the writers or illustrators at the Fair.
“The State Library is more than just books, it is a place to learn, to meet, to have fun and to be inspired,” said CEO and State Librarian, Margaret Allen.
“I am proud to be able to support the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, because they are crucial in getting our children to read from an early age.
“Reading to and with your children is simply one of the best things you can do to encourage a more creative and literate child,” Ms Allen said.
“I would encourage all those who attend this very popular event to take the opportunity to have a look around your State Library, and if you are not already a member – join up – its free,” she said.
