In 2018, Dr Robert Fletcher, a renowned historian from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom visited Perth to research the Forrest Family Records held at the State Library. Dr Fletcher’s research focuses on exploration of arid and desert regions. He is the author of British Imperialism and ‘The Tribal Question’: Desert Administration and Nomadic Societies in the Middle East, 1919-1936, and in November 2018 published ‘Decolonisation and the Arid World’ in The Oxford Handbook of the End of Empire.

Join Dr Fletcher in a lecture where he discusses the global context of John Forrest’s exploration legacy.

Why is the State Library of Western Australia giving this lecture at the State Library of South Australia? The State Library of South worked remotely on the From Another View project, by providing research and context to colonial exploration in South Australia in the APY Lands area.
