  2. The Lancashire Record Office website has digitised maps and images and a database of Lancashire police 1840-1930. There are also details of Anglican, roman Catholic and Non-Conformist church registers and transcriptions held.

  8. This site has information on which parishes are covered by the 2nd edition of the British Isles Vital Records Index available on CD-ROM. This index has details of over 10 million christenings and nearly 2 million marriages in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. There are also some transcriptions for a few English counties; mostly gazetteer entries plus the Return of Owners of Land for Oxfordshire 1873.

Please note that this site is not yet complete so it is important to check the coverage.   11. This database from the University of Manchester focuses on people involved in small business in the north west of England 1760-1820. This area includes Manchester, Liverpool, Lancaster, Preston, Wigan and Macclesfield. People appearing in records such as court records, wills, business records etc. have been indexed with entries linking to the original digitised documents.
