Bird's nest found on Dirk Hartog's Island Sept. 1818

This image from Shark Bay, an original pencil drawing by Jacques Arago, is that of a giant osprey nest found on Dirk Hartog Island. Arago realistically sketched his dishevelled appearance on the Western Australian coast.

In the official publication about the voyage, in an engraver's print by Marais, Arago is moved and smartened up on Freycinet's orders.
