Facilities

Internet

Full Internet access is available on all workstations throughout the library. A booking system is in place to ensure that all our clients have equal access to the workstations throughout the Library. In additon to the Internet, our Internet workstations also provide access to our library catalgue and electronic databases.

Computers

The State Library has computers on every floor that are available for you to use. 

Library catalogue computers

Computers dedicated to accessing our Library catalogue are available for your use on the first, second and third floors and do not require a booking.

Fast access computers

Fast access computers are available in the ground floor Discovery Lounge for 20 minute periods and do not require a booking.  Please wait in the designated area for the next free computer.

Book a computer

To access a computer for longer periods you must register with the State Library and make a booking for up to an hour at a time. You can make a booking for today or tomorrow.

If you plan to use the Library’s services over a long period please register to receive your membership number and library card.  If you are a short term visitor you can register as a guest. Computer bookings can only be made after you have registered on our computer booking system. Please see our Computer bookings page for information on how to register for computer access and how to make computer bookings.

Music Studio

Music Studio

A rehearsal and practice room for solo musicians and small acoustic ensembles is available for hire. It is equipped with a Yamaha piano, music stand and stool. Clients are welcome to try out sheet music from the Library's extensive collection.

The Music Studio is available from 9am to 7:45pm Monday to Thursday; 9am to 5:15pm Friday; and 10am to 5:15pm Saturday and Sunday.  Exhibition Space

Situated on the ground floor, the library's exhibition space hosts a year round program of exhibitions and events to promote our collections and services.

Nursing Mothers Room

A room for nursing mothers is located on the ground floor of the State Library Building. Please speak to our Welcome desk staff on the ground floor if you need to access this room.

Café

Aroma Cafe is located on the ground floor of the State Library Building where light refreshments are provided. Catering services are available for public events in the State Library Theatre and functions in the building by arrangement. Please telephone us on:     08 9427 3102 for further details. The State Library Building is situated in Northbridge which has a wide range of restaurants.

Equipment

Photocopiers & Printers

Self-service black & white and colour photocopiers and black & white printers which provide A4 and A3 copies are provided on the ground, first, second and third floors of the State Library. One A2 copier is provided on the first floor.

Our photocopying and printing system operates through a copy card. You may purchase one of our copy cards for $2.00 from the card dispensers on the ground, first, second, and third floors. Alternatively, you may register one of your own cards, e.g. Medicare, HBF, bank or VISA card, on the card dispenser and credit machine found on both the ground and third floors of the library.

After purchasing or registering your card you may add extra money to the card and use it to pay for all your printing, copying and music studio fees.

CDROM workstations

Four workstations are available on the first floor and one is available on the third level of the library where you may access a range of genealogical CDROM databases.

Micrographic readers, reader-printers and scanners

The Library is equipped with analogue micrographic readers and reader-printers. The Library also provides digital micrographic scanners that are capable of high resolution scanning. The scanners allow you to scan microform images, print and save them to CDs, USB devices and SD cards. The analogue micrographic readers and scanners are located on the first and third floors of the Library. The analogue reader-printers are located on the third floor of the library. 16mm film player

The Library provides a 16mm film player on which you can view State Library, State Film Archives and National Film and Sound Archive films. The film player is located on the second floor of the Library.

LCD TVs, VHS and DVD equipment

Widescreen LCD televisions, video and DVD players are located on the second floor of the Library. You may view State Library and National Film and Sound Archive videos and DVDs on this equipment.

Long play record, CD and audio cassette equipment

Record, CD and audio cassette players are available on the second floor of the Library. You may use this equipment to listen to recordings from the State Library audio collections.

Hi-fidelity headphones

Headphones are available for all clients who wish to access State Library audio-visual recordings. These headphones may also be used by clients accessing Naxos music library recordings on the on the computers next to the second floor service desk.

Headphones for purchase

Headphones are available at $3.50 per set from the library bookshop. The headphones may be used to listen to sound files on all of our Internet computers.

Change machines

There is a  change machine on the ground floor which dispense $1.00 coins. It will take a  $5.00, $10.00 or $20.00 notes.

Lockers

Lockers are provided for library clients only on the ground floor of the State Library Building. Bags greater than 32cm x27cm are not permitted on the upper floors of the library where the collections are housed. These lockers are for the safe storage of our clients' bags and valuables. To operate the lockers you will need a 4 digit PIN code of your choice. Anything left in the lockers after closing time will be removed by library staff.

Telephones

A public telephone is available on the ground floor of the State Library Building.

Public toilets

Male and female toilets are available on the ground, first, second and third floors of the library. A separate unisex disabled toilet is available on the ground floor.
