Full Internet access is available on all non-specialised computers throughout the Library. A booking system is in place to ensure that all our clients have equal access to computers. Our computers also provide access to our library catalogue and electronic resources.
We also provide access to the LibreOffice office suite of software, and VLC media player and other software.
Special needs clients
The State Library of Western Australia is committed to ensuring that people with disabilities, their families and carers have the same opportunities, rights and responsibilities as others to access equitable library and information services.
A rehearsal and practice room for solo musicians and small acoustic ensembles is available for hire.
Situated on the ground floor, the library's exhibition space hosts a year round program of exhibitions and events to promote our collections and services.
A room for parents with babies is located on the ground floor of the State Library Building. This room has a place for nursing mothers, and a change table. Please speak to our Welcome Desk staff on the ground floor if you need to access this room.
Photocopiers and printers are available on all floors of the Library. Prints and copies are available in both colour and black & white in A4 and A3 sizes. Printing is available from all non-specialised State Library computers.
Microform readers and scanners
The Library is equipped with analogue micrographic readers. The Library also provides digital microform scanners that are capable of high resolution scanning of microfiche and microfilm only. The scanners allow you to scan microform images, print and save them to USB devices. The analogue micrographic readers and scanners are located on the first and third floors of the Library, while the scanners are located on the third floor.
The Library provides a 16mm film player on which you can view State Library, State Film Archives and National Film and Sound Archive films. The film player is located on the third floor of the Library.
Widescreen LCD televisions, video and DVD players are located on the first floor of the Library. You may view State Library and National Film and Sound Archive videos and DVDs on this equipment.
Headphones are available at the Library bookshop. The headphones may be used to listen to sound files on all of our Internet computers.
Bags greater than 48cm x 38cm are not permitted on the upper floors of the Library where the collections are housed. There is a sign depicting this size close to the security gates on the ground floor.
Over sized or larger items:
Items that exceed our size limit may not be taken into the upper floors of the library.
There are no storage facilities available for such items. You are not able to leave these larger items at the Welcome Desk.
Please note: clients are responsible for their own belongings and bags whilst using any areas of the library.
A public telephone is available on the ground floor of the State Library Building, near the foyer area.
Male and female toilets are available on the ground, first, second and third floors of the Library. A separate unisex disabled toilet is available on the ground floor.
