Borrowing films, videos and DVDs
The State Film and Video Library Closure
This is to inform you that on the 11th December 2009 the State Film and Video Library will be disbanded and cease to be a separate lending collection and all memberships will be closed.
Although memberships will be closed you will still have access to film through your local public library as an inter library loan. Film can still be viewed at the State Library and screening programmes such as the Wednesday Matinee will continue. Film will also still be collected in its many formats and added to the Library's collections where appropriate. The collection of Western Australian film remains a key focus for the State Library.
A review of the State Film and Video Library, declining use over a number of years and our new collection development policy has led to this decision.
Individual borrowers
Individuals may borrow videos and DVDs through the interlibrary loan service at local Australian public libraries. To initiate an interlibrary loan, please make a note of the item details from the State Library catalogue and give the details to your local librarian. Your local librarian will request the items, which will be sent to your local library for you to borrow.
Viewing film, video and DVD in the Library
All members of the public may make preview bookings to view our films, videos and DVDs on the second level of the State Library. Advance preview bookings may be made for films, videos and DVDs. Videos and DVDs may be requested and viewed on the day you wish to watch them at the second floor reference desk by telephone or email. Due to health and safety requirements a minimum of 24 hours advance notice is required before viewing any 16mm films.
