  4. 17th-18th Century Burney Collection Newspapers is a subscription site which is available to use for no charge within the State Library of Western Australia building and from home for SLWA members. It is a collection of newspapers, pamphlets and parliamentary papers originally collected by the Reverend Charles Burney. The material was published in England, Ireland and Scotland with some from British colonies in Asia and the Americas.

  5. The British Newspaper Archive is a subscription site which is available to use for no charge within the State Library of Western Australia (SLWA) building. It consists of millions of pages of digitised historical newspapers from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales held at the British Library. You can register so that you can save searches, create lists and correct text in a similar way to Australia's Trove website. Select parts 1 -5 from the "content set" on the search page to search across all databases.

The library edition is available to use for no charge within the building of the State Library of Western Australia and at most public libraries in Western Australia. Top content includes Australian electoral rolls, Australian passenger lists, convict material, UK census 1841-1901, UK birth, marriage and death indexes 1837-2005, UK National Probate Calendar 1861-1941, British phone books 1880-1984, London parish records, New Zealand electoral rolls 1853-1981, United States census, Canadian census and much more. The commercial (non library) version at www.ancestry.com includes publicly submitted material such as family trees and photographs.

  10. Australian Public Affairs Full Text is a subscription site which is available to use for no charge within the State Library of Western Australia building and from home for SLWA members. It is not a family history resource but it does include journals published by various Australian genealogical and historical societies such as Early Days (Royal Western Australian Historical Society) and Descent (Society of Australian Genealogists).

  11. Findmypast is a subscription site which is available to use for no charge within the State Library of Western Australia building. It contains material relating to the United Kingdom and Ireland and all Australian states and New Zealand with a small amount of content for the Pacific Islands and Papua New Guinea. The Australian states with the largest amount of material are Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. Content includes passenger lists, almanacs, Blue Books, electoral rolls, government gazettes, police gazettes and post office directories. The Ireland section includes will indexes, directories, cemetery transcriptions, land records and more. The largest collection is Irish prison records which includes information on over 3.5 million people. Most coverage for the United Kingdom is for England and Wales, including 1841-1911 census records. Census transcriptions for Scotland for 1841 through to 1901 are also available. Top content includes births, marriages and deaths including overseas BMDs, armed forces BMDs and BMDs at sea; UK outgoing passenger lists 1890-1960 and British Army service records (also known as Chelsea Pensioner records) 1760-1913.

The Times is a leading newspaper publication from the UK with coverage of overseas material as well as happenings in the UK.
